Top Tips To Protect Your Home From The Cold Snap

The UK and Ireland are experiencing a cold snap complete with snow, high winds and very icy conditions. Most of us are taking care of ourselves with scarves and mitts however many of us are not thinking about taking extra care of our properties.

Here are 5 handy tips to help protect your home from the affects of winter weather damage

1.   There is a higher risk of burst pipes in low temperatures so know the location of your mains water stop valve to prevent damage.

2.   Ensure your central heating is working properly and there aren’t any leaking pipes or radiators. If you can spot a problem early, you can prevent failures.

3.   Check your roof for cracked or dislodged tiles and your gutter are free of cracks and debris. Again prevention in the best medicine.

4.   Install (if you haven’t already), cavity wall insulation, not only will this help protect your home from the extreme low temperatures; it will also add value to your home.

5.   Ensure you have adequate home insurance and check the accurate level of cover your building insurance policy offers.

Emergency call outs to fix burst pipes or other typical malfunctions due to the cold can be costly, but just by taking a few precautionary steps, you can protect your home or investment against the worst of the weather. McCallin Carr can provide an up to date Insurance assessment of your property to ensure that you have the correct level of cover, in the event of any mishaps.
